The Importance of Quality Staff

At Walden Day Care we believe our staff is one of the most important aspects in achieving quality programming. They are the day care's heart and soul, responsible for creating the atmosphere, nurturing and respecting your child and seeing that he/she grows in the best way he/she possibly can.

Some people believe that anyone with a good heart and a strong back can care for young children.

That's a start, but it certainly isn't enough. According to Burton L. White, author of "The First Three Years of Life", a first-rate early childhood educator is "warm, interested, experienced, knowledgeable, intelligent, verbal, patient, enthusiastic, and not overly protective."

They know their children and respond to them as individuals with their own style, rhythm and preferences.

They know how the children grow and learn, and the developmental stages they pass on their way through childhood, so that they can gear actions, speech, toys and activities to their constantly expanding interests and abilities.

Each of our staff have been chosen with these qualities in mind and we take pride in the fact that their contributions to our various programs have been a major factor in achieving our current level of success.

Our Board ensures that the Child Care Supervision Policy for Volunteers and Students is followed:

1. No child is supervised by a person under 18 years of age.

2. Only employees will have direct unsupervised access to children.

3. Volunteers and students may not be counted in the staffing ratios.

4. All playrrom will be Registered Early Childhood Educators.
